Dongcuoxiang, Tibet

To the north of Nepal and Bhutan, and to the east of India lies the Tibet Autonomous Region. As everyone who has ever been near a college campus knows, the amount of tension concerning Tibet’s political status is quite staggering. However, this is not the only thing about Tibet that gives it character. Tibet is, of course, home to Tibetan Buddhism, and the leader of the Gelug branch of Tibetan Buddhism is one of the most famous men in the world, the Dalai Lama.

There is also a little known hidden treasure in Tibet, in the region of Doncuoxiang. Some would say it’s “off the beaten path”, others would say it’s “in the middle of nowhere”.

It doesn’t look like much when you’re zoomed out on the map, but if we take a closer look (click on the image for a larger version), the treasure is revealed:

A full sized track! I don’t know if this is a school or a prison or what, but there appear to be trucks or busses to the west of the road in the middle of the installation, indicating that it could be either, or even a military base of some sort. Please feel free to leave your guesses in the comments.
