Derbent, Republic of Dagestan, Russia

I’d like to start off this blog with a track from the Russian city of Derbent.

Derbent is the southernmost city in Russia, and has a population of 120,000.  It is considered the oldest city in Russia, with ruins that date back over 5,000 years.  In addition to being identified with Alexander’s Wall, a barrier supposedly built by Alexander the Great to keep the barbarous tribes of the north from slaughtering the civilized people to the south, it is home to this lovely 500m track.

Thanks, Wikipedia.
